At 590 State Route 14, Penn Yan, NY, Black Squirrel Farms collects and processes the black walnuts that grow on our land as well as those from other local growers in partnership with others working in this space. We are the only 20-C licensed facility processing black walnuts in NYS and we are turning a native New York nut from a wasted resource into healthy food and useful household products. We operate an onsite farm stand and an onsite Airbnb. We’re one of a handful of groups leading the development and implementation of small-scale black walnut processing capability nationally, making it possible to process black walnuts close to where the the trees are growing. We are seeking 2026 part-time black walnut operations support for a minimum of 10 hrs/wk with a mid-Sept start date and a sunset date of mid-Dec. The purpose of this role is to help bring in the 2026 regional black walnut harvest. This mostly-outdoors job includes walnut receiving and processing and may include walnut gathering or other tree seed processing. No prior training or experience is required. This role reports to Tia Torres, Production Operations Manager. Job responsibilities include walnut receiving and processing and may include walnut gathering or other tree seed processing. Because our black walnuts are dropped off at our site by a community of growers, this job is a good fit for someone who likes to work outdoors and work with the community. Hourly wage is $18.00/hr, previous relevant or related work experience a plus and taken into consideration. Black walnuts are our native NYS walnut and we are working to make sure this native food crop does not go to waste.
