At 590 State Route 14, Penn Yan, NY, Black Squirrel Farms collects and processes the black walnuts that grow on our land as well as those from other local growers in partnership with others working in this space. We are the only 20-C licensed facility processing black walnuts in NYS and we are turning a native New York nut from a wasted resource into healthy food and useful household products. We operate an onsite farm stand and an onsite Airbnb. We’re one of a handful of groups leading the development and implementation of small-scale black walnut processing capability nationally, making it possible to process black walnuts close to where the the trees are growing. Black Squirrel Farms will support select academic projects in partnership with local colleges and universities. Please use our contact page to reach out with questions.

We are not hiring at this time.

We accept indications of interest in future roles on an ongoing basis.

All open 2025 fall part-time roles working on our farm to help bring in the local 2025 black walnut harvest have been filled. This mostly-outdoors job include walnut receiving and processing and may include nutshell processing or walnut gathering. Black walnuts are our native NYS walnut and we are working to make sure this native food crop does not go to waste. An additional role may open at a later date if this year’s harvest is larger than anticipated. We check our list of people potentially interested in a role before posting new roles so we encourage people potentially interested in a future role to fill out our indication of interest and preemployment screening survey.  Questions about any open role can be routed through our contact page if more specific guidance has not been provided.
